It is also home to a variety of international cuisines, including Indian, Chinese, and Italian. Leicester's history dates back to the Iron Age, when it was a settlement of the Corieltauvi tribe. It was later conquered by the Romans, who built a fort there in the 1st century AD. During the Middle Ages, Leicester was an important trading centre and was granted a charter in 1130. In the 16th century, Leicester was the site of the Battle of Bosworth Field, which marked the end of the War of the Roses. In the 19th century, Leicester became an industrial centre, with the development of the hosiery and boot and shoe industries.
