Cultural information :
information about your location :  Essex is a county in the East of England with a rich history and culture. It is home to some of the most important historical buildings in the country, including Colchester Castle, the oldest recorded town in Britain, and Audley End House, a Jacobean mansion. Other important buildings include Layer Marney Tower, a Tudor palace, and Hedingham Castle, a Norman keep. Gastronomic specialties in Essex include the famous Colchester Oysters, as well as the traditional English dishes of Eel Pie and Mash and Jellied Eels. The history of Essex dates back to the Iron Age, when it was part of the kingdom of the East Saxons. It was later part of the kingdom of Mercia, and then the Danelaw. In the Middle Ages, Essex was an important centre of trade and industry, and it was also the site of the Battle of Maldon in 991.
